FWIW, I had a '00 non-Aero 9-5, bought off lease with 9K miles in '03, that I ran hard through 2013. I gave it to a destitute friend at 105K, and he's driven it without problems since then. There were never any sludge issues, and I kept up the maintenance religiously.

I only got rid of it because a Lincoln dealer in Columbus, OH took an '09 Aero in trade on a Saturday, and I landed in Columbus at 9:00 Monday morning. 80K for $9,000 in absolutely eat-off-the-engine condition. I wanted one of the last year of the earlier 9-5 model, and especially an Aero. It's a nice contrast, a 260hp Aero sitting next to my 65hp 1971 96...</end worthless opinion>
