I'm about to hit 200K on my '04 Aero wagon (bought used w/ 44K) and I'm probably going to dump it soon...It runs well most of the time, but when the weather gets hot the transmission goes into "limp home" mode (stuck in 5th gear). A simple restart fixes it, but it is annoying; new transmission fluid has helped a bit, but I'm afraid it's on the way out.
Otherwise the engine has been bulletproof, but some annoying problems have occurred over the past year. One of the pins that holds the rear hatch shocks sheared off requiring replacement of both the pin and the shocks. When they put my car up on the lift for an oil change, one of the rear shocks dumped its oil...$$$. My serpentine belt tensioner failed, causing the belt to shred...when the belt shredded, it wrapped around the CV joint boot and shredded that, so I had two problems for my indie to fix. Not sure what's next, but I'm to the point where I wouldn't take it on a long trip, although it's still my daily commute car.
It's been a good car, but there comes a time when you need to move on. If you get a used one try to get full maintenance records, since it does help to know what you'll be dealing with.
