My Passport 8500 is mounted above and behind the rear view mirror. I had to put it over on the passenger side because of the way the mirror is normally tilted. I can still see the faceplate and the rear antenna/laser detector can still "see" out the back window. There may be some interference with rear laser detection, but we don't have lasers in Montana. This mounting location conceals the detector pretty well but not perfectly.
