LOOKS EASY!!! They make it look easy on the TV commercials.....well it is a bit complicated.
If you add r134a a system you need to know how much is in the system. Saab uses a variable volume compressor, so the gas in the system is measured by weight. You need 31 oz. .....but how much is in there?
If you have a leak....well you fix the leak, and then you should jack up the front of the car and replace the receiver dryer. This has the desiccant and takes water out of the system. They are about $20
Then you attach you electric vacuum pump, and your a/c gauges to the high and low port.
Open both valves and pump the system for 30 minutes or so. Close the high and low valves on the gauges and see if the vacuum holds for an hour or more. If it does you don't have any big leaks.
Now start the pump and run for 2 to 3 hours to get all the air and then moisture out of the system.
Check to see if it holds vacuum again.
Now, with the vacuum still there, add about 10 OZ. of R134a with both valves open. Shut the high side valve. Finish the can with the engine off. Put on a fresh can and hold it up and shake slowly. Turn on the engine set air to coldest on auto. The compressor should now run. put in a total of 31 oz. of refrigerant.
The low side gauge should read 24 to 35 PSI. Let the car idle for a bit and check for cool air.
Wear safety glasses, flush the hoses of air etc..
I found lots of good info on the internet, but it is a bit complex, and there is no way but to add the right amount BY WEIGHT. And you need gauges and a vacuum pump.
You CANNOT set the system by low pressure only.
NOT AS EASY as the TV commercials say.
