How are the alternators failing?
Is it the same failure each time? If so, it may be more than the alternator.
Is the shop doing anything else that could affect the alternator?
An internal failure could be a bad rebuild. Three in a row is suspicious and makes me think your tech is using the cheapest remans he can find. Maybe you can insist on a Bosch, but they can also be NG right out of the box.
Second, is the shop using the right serp belt? If the are using one that's too short it may be putting too much stress on the alternator which causes a failure.
Is there another problem? Like a poor connection due to faulty wires, bad ground, etc?
FWIW, I've had an AutoZone or Advance reman on my '96 9K for almost seven years (70K miles). My daughter has a reman she got from Bond auto parts for her '00 9-3 for 18+ months, and my wife's 9-5 has an alt from Advanced we put on 2 years ago.
