I don't think there are internal electronics in the MAF - save for the elements which detect changes in airflow volume and send a signal based on current flow. I believe it's a heated 3 wire maf - usually one ground, one + 12v current and one which send the output to the CPU.

Unless it's of poor quality to begin with or physically damaged I personally don't subscribe to the concept of it "going bad" but others won't agree with that perspective.
