Front Suspension Noise - Knocking Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Sun, 19 Aug 2018 20:34:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've completed MORE suspension work I posted about a month ago. I still get what sounds like a metal on metal rattle / clack on sharp bumps from the right front. Car ('04 Aero Wagon) is at 192,000 miles.
Here's a list of what's been done recently (past 8 weeks):
Lower control arms - ball joints and bushings.
Tie Rod Ends.
Sway Bar links.
Struts (Koni Active)
Tower bearings, mounts, bump stops.
In July I had the car to an indie and had him drop the sub-frame to replace the bushings. He pronounced them all good and to keep driving! I had him do the alternator, exhaust, and MacKay hose set up at the same time. I had the two rear sub-frame bushings done 3.5 years ago.
Today I checked all the subframe bolts and they're all at 74 ft/lb +. The fronts needed some tightening and I added the 45 degree "phase two".
I've also checked the sway bar mounts and they're good. I've also pushed the car round and round in a parking lot and heard no tell-tale clicking from the CVs. Could it be an inboard CV?
When I back the car out of the garage there's about a 2" drop to the driveway. Going over that I hear a clatter like the muffler is vibrating against the body. I checked and even replaced a hanger to lift it about 3/4" so it doesn't touch the cross member.
I'm wondering if the indie could have botched the sub-frame re-install. He failed to tighten a band on the exhaust and I had to re-fit and re-fix it properly.
The noise is definitely from the right front.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
