FWIW I've had really bad experience with rebuilt axles. Failure rates, out of the box, very high, and once I had a good one it's life was quite short. This over a variety of saabs (9000 and 900) but never a 9-5 so take it with a grain of salt.
Even so, with 75k on a rebuilt axle I'd be suspicious of it and I'd say that it's worth investigating.
your symptom is a "random" and "doesn't necessarily follow speed of wheels. comes and goes not always there but definitely there on every drive."
To my mind it's hard to attribute a random noise, not following road speed, to axles, CVs, wheel bearings, etc. I think that I'd focus on the parts that are not spinning first:
- tie rod ends
- brake caliper
- brake dust shield
- sway bar links
Does the noise change with lateral loading? Say at highway speeds, a left to right and a right to left aggressive lane change? Or maybe an on/off ramp at speed?
