OpCom is a low-cost option for reading ABS codes . . . . 1 Saabers Like This Post! I have an OpCom only for the reason that it will read the ABS codes on our 9-5's. If you have to order one, download software, and get it set up on a PC, then this may not fit your timelines. But I thought I'd throw it out there so you could consider the option.
bobc's decision tree (too methodical to be entirely "shotgun") is a good one. I am one of the people who had an incompatible brake light switch - go with OE switch. Two different cars I maintain had this issue - one was cured by cleaning the switch, the other needed the ABS rear crimped junctions cut out and re-soldered.
Wishin you the best on your quest !
