The 9-5 is a durable, safe and well-engineered car that can last indefinitely. It has it's electrical component maintenance quirks which seem to be related to how hot these high pressure turbos run and perhaps design issues too. In the event you did not know, the throttle body, CPS, coolant temp sensor and DI are the electrical components that somewhat uniquely cause issues and need periodic replacement. I don't believe anyone has done a detailed survey but based on my own experience and what I have read I would consider the following when dealing with these older 4 cyl 9-5s (recall the youngest are 12 MY's old or so:
CPS (OE or Bosch) - 120,000km or every 8 years - inexpensive - relatively easy DIY
Throttle body(OE) - 160,000km or every 8 years - expensive - relatively easy DIY. can be rebuilt
DI (OE) - 120,000km or 8 years -moderately expensive - easy DIY
Temp Sensor (OE) 120,000km or every 8 years - inexpensive - easy DIY with deep socket
If an owner has auto club and doesn't do very long trips, you could probably do all four every 8 years or 160,000km - a small price to pay for keeping these fine automobiles on the road. This site has lots of other maintenance tips and many other quirks do pop up but they are not outlandish compared with other aging european vehicles. Like I have mentioned once in a while, an owner replaces a few components as above and by and large you are left with a vehicle with Toyota Camry reliability.
