HI Ko,

198,000 on my 2003 Linear Wagon, would like to get at least as far as the previous 1986 600s (239,00 when rebuilt auto trans failed).

Anders' experience is much wider than mine, so from that, having a TCM fail is rare and far more likely to have valve body issues. Medical doctors are taught that when they hear hoofbeats to first assume it comes from a horse and not a zebra. My TCM Zebra educated guess was in part driven by wanting to avoid opening the valve body.

With that said, the electronic modules on these cars are aging and components can fail, and having backup TCM is not a bad idea, though I would hold out for one from 2003 (part number 5440334). If in for the long haul obtaining a Tech 2 is in my opinion a good investment.
