We have a 2004 SAAB 9-5 with a dysfunctional ABS module (/w ESP) - P1625 CEL code, no speedometer, odometer, etc...

The prevailing wisdom on here seems to be that the ESP versions are not reman-friendly, and I would concur after 2 unsuccessful attempts. So the plan is to swap in a used one. So questions...

1) Has anyone successfully swapped a -514 module in to replace the -701 module and had full functionality after? (I know you can swap in older modules and have less functionality)

2) To what extent is a Tech 2 required to do a swap? Swapping same model p/n? Swapping different model p/n?

3) Is it possible to test a used module for communication by connecting the front end electrically to the car?

I found a junk yard -514 full abs unit I can return, but not once separated and I am not going to install it whole. The -514 apparently came from a 2004 9-5, so they quite possibly transitioned abs models somewhere in the year (I know there are other production number differences also, as we have 2 2004 sedans in the extended family).
