Thanks Bernie. I wanted to provide an update on this for others who might have similar questions in the future. I did test it by plugging the main communication cable from the car into the used complete abs unit that was otherwise not connected to the car. The 2 wire connector that powers the pump, I left in place and same for the sensor in the back of the abs module (so car was connected to the new abs module, new pump, old sensor). I did this after clearing all codes. I did get the 4 lights on the dash but no cel. I did not drive it that way (obviously). I was not confident in the test and so I decided to chance it and take it to my Saab Indy to install and program anyway. Turns out, the module was no good, the 4 dash lights are on with it in the car also. However, speedometer works and no cel, so it was an improvement at least. So possibly the test is a reasonable way to do a quick check. I'm going to source another unit and will report back here later. These are not very common locally so it may take a while... This was a 514 supposedly from a 2004 to replace mine (also 2004) which was a 701. Thanks to all for their advice and I will follow up again later.
