Even though ground cables don't go bad as often on the 9-5 (more common on the NG9-3 model) as the positive cable, there is still a chance it could be bad.
Battery cable issues though are usually manifested itself as dropping the charging voltage as hotter the cable gets. So when the engine is cold, that's when it gives out the most voltage and as the engine compartment and cables gets warmed up, the voltage slowly drops.
So if you have 11.8V in the morning and the voltage drops as the engine is running, it sure looks like you have another problem and make sure the ground cable healthy.
