I need to replace the reluctor on the drivers side front of my 2004 9-5. I basically was following this you tube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PavH6pxiP8
I got the 2 shock absorber bolts and the axle bolt off (thank God for hefty electric impact tools). Went to yank the rotor+caliper+hub assembly off of the axle shaft (as shown in the video) and it would not budge. After studying this for a while, I think the video is bogus/wrong. There is no way that the disk & caliper assembly can be removed as shown in the video.
I am thinking of an approach and would like someone experienced with this to tell me if my thinking is correct or tell me how to do it correctly.
I think I have to remove the brake caliper and hang it on the spring, and then remove the three bolts of the lower ball joint. The axle is splined so I think I’ll need some jig, similar to a gear puller. The center of the puller rests on the center of the axle, and the outside of the puller could attach to lugnuts put into the hub. Is there a special Saab tool to do this? I can’t see how to separate the two since they are splined. (maybe beating on the center of the axle to force it off of the hub will work?)
If there is a better way to do this please let me know. This has me a bit stumped.
