Fred:
Unfortunately, I did not check the resistance. I was in a hurry because the car was scheduled for a safety inspection. If you do have a used sensor you could try plugging it in before you put the door back together to see if the code clears. WIS says the sensor communicates by modulating the current of the SRS control module. Communications consist of: a. Identification of passenger side or driver side, b. Status of side impact sensor, whether defective or OK, or c. Activation of side airbag. As this communication is more complex than just simple continuity or no continuity, resistance would not be a good indication of the condition of the module. Likewise it might be difficult to assess the current flow from the SRS control module, unless the impact sensor was connected and communicating. In that case maybe something like a current clamp on an oscilloscope might show the current flow, although that is just a guess. Based on my experience on a 2000 9-5, the connectors seem to be very weather resistant and are less likely to be the problem than the sensor.
I have had a great deal of trouble finding that plastic trim, unless you know someone with some parts cars. My guess is that dismantlers don’t bother with such a fragile part that is not worth much used and is large to ship.
I hope the kidney stone operation goes well along with the recovery. Those things are never pleasant but at least you have some help.
Best wishes,
Paul
