Silly question. While you were fueling had you turned the key off or was the car still running or in “on” position?

With my car (all its life), fueling with the engine running or gauges powered, the gas gauge needle barely moves initially and slowly climbs. Shutting off and restarting (or restarting after fueling with engine off) gets an immediate true reading.

As I said, this is something thats been consistent over my cars 22 year life (and fuel pump has been replaced).
