The layer of paint on the hood badge is very thin. Mine sloughed off one winter when a pile of snow slid off the hood. Don't try cleaning it.

You either need a new one or some places can support a silicone disc that will stick onto the badge if it loses its paint layer. My last replacement came from Greece. I'm not sure that he's still in business, but I'll check.
