3d decals, over existing badge or replace?

What wasn't clear to me is if these are meant to stick to the existing (peeled) badge or replace it? Does the 3d make sense stuck to the chrome badge or does it bulge up a lot? Or did you just remove the old one and stick it over the holes on the hood? It looks like there is chrome colour around the outside of some of the stickers they sell.

If anyone can post a picture of how it turned out, that would be super useful! Thanks!
