I suggest you get some Mighty Mint at your local hardware chain. You can also search the web on why the rodents chew our wire insulation due to it being made with soy protein. There are also recipes on how to make your own spray to apply to area that the rodents like on the web.
I fought this battle with a chipmunk that nested over my gas tank, chewed insulation, but did not cause serious damage. Good that the MY2000 had the access port under the rear seat.
Rodents don't like the smell of mint. It interferes with their ability to follow the scent trails they leave by continuously peeing.
