Honest opinion and experience:

I currently own a 2002 Aero (5spd) and used to own an 2001 allroad with the 2.7T engine (tiptronic). The reason I traded the allroad for the Aero was the off the line lag found with the tiptronic and the 2.7T engine combo. I found it to be very annoying and a HUGE safety issue. If you go to the allroad board on audiworld you will see this topic discussed at nauseum. It became so bothersome to me I ended up taking a bit of a bath on the car just to get out of it. This issue is still an issue with the tip and the 2.7T engine. If I had a 6 speed I probably would still have the allroad.

I came back to Saab after having an early 2000 model Viggen coupe. I really enjoyed the turbo in the Saab and still believe it is better than the Audi turbos. The auto transmission in the Saab 9-5 is an EXCELLENT automatic IMHO. If I was to buy another auto it would certainly be the Saab.

Overall The Audi had an overall better fit and finish. The seats in the Aero were far superior. Given the Saab was a few thousand less I found a happy home with the aero. I have had the aero for a little over 5 months now and I can't wait to drive it everyday.

Additional food for thought -- I think they are phasing out the 2.7T -- I know in other models they have had serious turbo blow-outs (mainly chipped S4s, but others have complained). If you notice, with the exception of the 1.8T, audi seems to be moving away from trubos......
