I have talked to a mechanic at the dealership when he was marrying a CD changer to my car about modifications and just how much the 9-5's can take. He said that of all the Saabs that have come through the dealship that the 9-5/9-3 are the most durable that he has seen. There was a classic 900 next to us as he made reference to it and it's ability to take modifications. He said it could only take about another 30-40 horsepower over stock and longgeivity would be greatly reduced if things did not break.
I was a skeptic until upgrading to Nordic's Stage III on my 9-5 Aero. I E-mail Mr. Uhr asking what breaks when you put an extra 70 horsepower and 60 lb-trq on a stock drive train? He said nothing breaks but the ordinary bad-habit of slipping clutch wears them out faster. I have taken my 9-5 on a few road course and auto crosses and have not had any problems.
Take care,
Norm
