...the 9000 is by far the most durable of all Saabs built, with exception of the gearbox of course. In terms of engine the 9000 has the "pre-Ecopower" engine which has very much more "heavy duty" internals than the 9-5 engine does. This is even taking the mods to the 9-5 Aero and 2001 models into account.
The 9000 engine can handle well over 350, and even close to 400 "real" hp without needing to change rods or pistons. Not many cars around can claim that...
