Most of the country (U.S.A.), knows little to nothing about Saabs with the exception of bigger cities and the colder North, Midwest and parts West.
Reasons being
1) lack of dealer network (Some Saab owners drive miles to the nearest dealer), some states have only 1 dealer in the entire state and if you have crappy service , you are out of luck. Some states don't even have Saab dealers. Try moving to that state with your Saab!!
2) advertising is little to nothing compared to the other car makes
3) Reliability is on the rebound but with these Saab "newbies" coming from driving other foreign cars get extremely frustrated with rattles, unscheduled visits to dealers, then dealer not having part makes the owners stress level not any better. If you want a more reliable car get a Acura or Toyota.
4) Saab owners are a dedicated bunch who enjoy the beautiful design, awesome turbo rush you get in one, good but very expensive service (better off doing the simple services(oil change, filters, coolant,) save you hundreds of dollars or if not just pay the dealer because they probably have to make their boat payment for the month. When somethings gets repaired out of warranty, it is usually very expensive and some new owners cannot understand that.
5) Some owners are very upset over the poor resale values of their cars especially when you can get a new Saab at invoice minus the rebate. No car make that I know of is willing to give their cars away like Saab does and manage to survive in business. I got my baby blue Viggen in Dec 99 for $29,520. (What a country!)
6) But the few of us that do own one are generally proud of it but the survival and prosperity of Saab (only time will tell).
