Your facts simply are NOT accurate.
The WARRANTY OIL OF SAAB WORLD WIDE for the 9-5 is SAAB oil semi syn 5W-30. It does not matter what country you live in. This is the warranty product.
Anybody who disagrees with this is grossly uninformed.
SAAB may coose to fill the sump at manufacture with 00-XX oil. I could care less.
Because, when it comes time to change the oil--the OWNERS MANUAL clearly states BASIC RECOMMENDATION as semi (or full synthetic) viscosity 5W-30/0W-30/5W-40 oil.
Now 5W-30 Mobil 1 is a great oil. Why ? Inexpensive ! Readily Available !
Good enough for Corvette as OE.
But Corvettes must be driven "more gentle" than SAABS.
Think about that the next time a C-vette goes by your turbo at 100+ mph.
Corvettes must have tougher bearings than SAAB, because obviously you cannot use Corvette Mobil 1 5W- 30 in your SAAB !! BALONEY.
Go look at the ACEA spec for A1/B1, A5/B% which is the spec for the WAL MART 5W-30. Now look at the A3/B3 spec. Doggone if 99% of you will ever know or see the difference.
Get an independent to challenge your thinking---I did.
I've NEVER had bearing problems in a SAAB, in over 1.25 million miles of driving SAABS over 26 years.
Now, all of a sudden, "the sky is falling" if you dont use A3/B3? BUNK !
And now the finale-----
SAAB tests these rides for MILLIONS and MILLIONS of miles--uses every kind of semi-syn oil from popular known brands to Olle's oil brand.
You guys read books, denegrate marketing departments and engineers to further you own cause. Feel good ? you spent 10's of thousands of dollars to demean the company from whom you bought the car ? Rediculous!!
When they (SAAB) post a minimum oil spec as semi-syn 5W-30---and back it up with more monies than all of you contrarians put together----------
It's proof enough for me.
