You descibed my situation exactly. I live in Western Washington, where winter temps are typically in the 25F to 40F range with little significant snowfall, but lots of black ice and rain. (Unless I head up into the mountains, where it can be very deep snow.) The reason I picked the Qs was for those rare times I have to go over the mountains. My next winter tires will be Goodyear Eagle UltraGrip GW2s, a more all-around hi-performance winter tire.
My front tires typically lose 1/8 inch of tread every 2000 miles. If I rotate them religiously, that gives me a maximum life expectancy of only about 12,000 miles. That's totally unacceptable. The rears never show any wear, so it has to be the soft compound combined with the enormous torque of my Aero engine. And no, I don't hot-rod around. I drive very easily on the Qs - not the case with my summer tires ;)
Thanks for the comments.
