A) the factory uses and recommends ACEA A3/B3, with a preference for fully synthetic. 5W30 or 0W30 or even 10W30 will not, in general, meet that spec (although there are a handful of XW-30 that do squeak by the ACEA HTHS requirement), but they will usually give better gas mileage. Why would someone use an oil different than the type used and recommended by the factory to save a little bit of gas money? You could achieve the same result by pumping up your tires harder.
2) The 9-5 leaves a quart of old oil in the oil cooler when you change oil. That's why it looks like s*** so soon after an oil change, IMO.
III) you can bring your own oil to the dealer for the free change and take the dealer's semi=synthetic home with you if you have another car to put it into. Mrs. G's Olds is about to get Saab oil!
And living in Miami!!!??? I've been on your freeways - it's not just the heat that will get to the motor! Use an ACEA A3/B3 oil, preferably fully synthetic. Mobil 1 0W40 has the relatively unique distinction of being both ACEA A3/B3 and ILSAC GF 3 rated. Most other (if not all other) ACEA A3/B3 oils fail ILSAC on the fuel savings part of the test. (note the fine print on Castrol's heavier synthetic and semi-synthetic ... they "meet all engine protection requirments of ILSAC GF3," but the starburst isn't there...). Other than fuel savings, any fully synthetic ACEA A3/B3 oil will be fine.
