I'm a new Saab owner (coming up on my one week anniversary with a 2000 9-5 wagon--I'm in love) and am not much of a gearhead to begin with, so I can't say I followed half of what just transpired in this thread, but is it correct for me to infer that when the guy at the oil change place asks if I want synthetic I should say yes (I used to say no). And it wouldn't hurt to change sooner (4-5k?) rather than later if I'm doing a lot of city driving.

What I'm scared to ask but dying to know is:
a.) why I should seek out Mobil oil
b.) what "synthetic: oil is--ALL oil seems pretty synthetic to me (compared to, say, my cotton shirt)
c.) whether I really have to pay attention to viscosity beyond whatever the guy at the oil change place is using this time of year
