Huh ?
"to get an equivalent viscosity from a Mobil 1 product, you'd have to step up to 0W-40."
You'll have to enlighten me on this.
Mobil 1 specs their product to API and ACEA. A Mobil 1 xW-30 is as advertised.
There'd have to be class action suits all over the place if a M1 30 was more like a 20.
The worlds largest synthetic oil company with the largest market share and countless product quality awards and longevity testimonials and you come up with this ? I don't see the proof sources nor agree with you here.
I guess my over 1 million miles on Mobil 1 10W-30 and 5W-30 without an oil related failure speaks my point very clearly.
As posted before, 99.9% of the people reading this post CANNOT outdrive the protection of Mobil 1 10W-30 synthetic oil. Turbo or N/A engines!!
