The only bad winter storm this winter in CT caught everyone off guard. It took me over 3 hours to drive something that's normally an hour or less. I even got stuck with snows because an SUV cut me off as I was going up a hill.
Snows have better tread patterns for snow, better siping, better materials, faster stopping, and much better control on ice.
Oh yeah, I can't stand traction control. To me, traction control does nothing beneficial. In fact, when I got stuck and tried to restart on the snowy hill, TCS killed my progress each time. I had to turn TCS off in order to get up the hill. I turn off TCS each time I enter the car.
