I have owned 2 900 Turbos, 2 9000 Turbos, 1 9000S and an '01 9-5 5-speed Aero Wagon, and put well over 100k miles on all of them (not yet on the 9-5). A 9000T and the 9000S both have over 150k and are still in the family. Not to put the jinx on the 9-5, but I have had very few problems with any of these cars, and never any engine or drive train problems. Actually, all of the cars have been remarkably trouble free.
The dealer network is uneven, but SAAB USA itself seems to be very responsive in dealing with problems. If the dealers seem unable to cope with a problem, use the 800 number and you should find it taken care of. Whether this will continue under GM is unknown, but how Volvo will behave under Ford also remains to be seen.
My kids totaled both 900s, and walked away without a scratch. One of them rolled over and over and over down an interstate at 65mph, 2,500 miles from home. Thank God for Saab.
Yesterday afternoon I drove 200 miles on I90, I95 and Boston's Route 128 in the middle of TS Allison, with terrific rain, lots of traffic, poor visibility and the typical caterpiller rush and slow down type of highway traffic. I had complete confidence - comfortable that the car would handle expertly, and that we would be well protected in the very real possibility of a nasty accident. That type of driving is why I bought the Saab - I want to drive the difficult drives with confidence, especially when I have family in the car with me.
My daugher drives a Saab I gave her, my wife drives a Saab and so does my sister and I just helped my son buy a base 9-5 2.3t Wagon for his family. There is no other vehicle that gives me the comfort of putting my family where they are as safe as possible. And safety includes reliability. Accidents happen, and this car is where you want your loved ones to be.
Besides, the car is a hell of a lot of fun to drive.
