Mike 99 9-5
as you can see, there are a lot of differing opinions.
I think most will agree there are some differences:
The V6 has two more cylinders than the I4
The V6 has a timing belt, the I4 a chain
I've read some of the posts from the previous years (I encourage you to do the same) and neither engine seems to have an achilles heel, provided you keep up with the maintenance.
Even here, you'll find wide disagreement. I suggest you not broach the subject of oil changes.
Find a good mechanic you can trust.
In my opinion, replacement parts are a little expensive. I have experienced early failure of some common components, i.e. blower motor (~$275), power steering pump ($450), and water pump ($75), timing belt tensioner ($250). But perhaps my car is the exception. I'll see how long the new parts last.
I think you'll like the experience of driving a SAAB.
Good luck with which ever engine you choose.
