Every company needs to re-evaluate its strategies and business units periodically, and Saab is not and should not be exempt from that process. You cannot blame GM for wanting to have a profitable company! Saab has has lost money in all but one of the past 10 years, according to the article.

It would be a shame, though, if they cannot turn Saab's repuation around internally at GM. Currently it is the red-headed-stepchild at GM, and while I honestly doubt it will be shut down this time... it sends a message that their head is on the block, and that time is running out for Saab to become profitable.

"GM executives and people familiar with the study said there was only an outside chance that the Swedish marque would be killed off by the review, due to be completed within three months."
