Once I ran over an I-beam dropped from a truck in a LeCar. The only damage was the trans drain plug was stripped out of the cast iron case - Yeow! The other cars that ran over it all had to be towed. I limped the few miles back to my appt and parked it thinking it was done-fer. My trusty hardware guy sold me what he called a well-nut. It's a fat "T" shaped rubber plug with 2 threaded washers incased in it. A screw squeezes the washers together increasing the diameter a little. The Lecar never leaked again and it cost $1.50 (doubling the value of the car). This isn't the right way but it'll work untill you can do it right. Good Luck
