1994. My '82 900S crashed and dead, I shopped/test drove used 900's with worn, lackluster exteriors/interiors and none as tight as the old '82. Bummed, I looked at an overpriced ($4400)'85 900S for sale by owner I'd been putting off. Jaw dropped when i saw it, still some blocks away, sun glinting off the hood! Impeccable in/out and with professional RaceGlaze reciepts years back. Seller, a Saab nut, was selling his wife's old commuter car (traveling sales woman, Madison to Milwaukee everyday). Wife made him sell it if he was to keep the Saab cvt he just bought (rough life).
My tech said it could use a $1000 laundry list of wear items; nonetheless we stood there gawking at the car, shaking our heads and smiling. A_real_pretty one ;o) (and outrageous $700 CD player.) Only one person in months had come to look at the car (the high price?) and as the owner put it, he 1. knew nothing of Saabs and 2. offered $3600. We talked shop, talked Saab, I showed him the repair estimate, told him $4400 was too much. It was so hard to not look too eager; I was 17yo and offered him $3700 hard earned. He looks at me and says, "Well, OK. At least I know you'll take good care of it."
