Cooling fans?

I have a 900S NA 1986. My radiator fans only work if I bypass the radiator temp switch and the relay 31 and 87, or i run the AC. I don't want to spend $50 bucks for a new relay. Is there any way to run a switch into the car so that I can turn on, at least, one of my fans when i sit in traffic without destroying the temp switch in the radiator? I believe that the wiring entering the relay is shot.
