Overheating badly and more...

Hi to all experts of the Saab 900i. I own since two weeks a 900i, Auto, 1987, 98,000mls, one owner from new, always maintained at a main Saab Dealer. Car is RHD. Collecting the car I noticed a very hot running engine. BTW I bought the Saab trough ebay. As I have experience with older cars (Mini, Vanden Plas, Rover etc) i flushed the engine, replaced all coolant hoses, fitted a new s/h radiator, changed the thermostat, topped up with coolant (50/50 water/Glysantin), bleeded the whole system and the Saab is still running very hot. I can't drive 'normal' fast uphill, if stuck in a traffic jam the temp gauge is raising very fast near the red zone. The head gasket was replaced three weeks ago by the former owner. Work was undertaken at a main Saab Dealer workshop. I suppose the work was done correctly. Engine is idling at 1,100rpm, the ignition timing was adjusted as I replaced yesterday the rocker cover seal. Was leaking badly, needed for 38mls more than 3litre oil. Saab is also heavy on fuel, approx. 12-14 mpg. What should I do? Buying a Rover/Jaguar or can I repair the Saab. Friends told me that a Saab is the best car for the winter. This car is the most unreliable car I owned in the last 12 years. And I owned even the 'horrible' Jaguar S II V 12.
