If you're still stuck on 3k mi changes (it doesn't sound like you are), then you're probably not gaining any benefit by using a larger filter. One thing to keep in mind is that the bypass valve built into the filter needs to be same. So, if you're using something different (a truck filter, perhaps?) then it may be bypassing at the wrong pressure setting.
ACDelco lists both the large & small oil filters for the C900 in their catalogue. When I emailed them about it, they didn't know why. They did say that the bypass valves were the set the same, & that the larger one held about 45%-50% more dirt. This doesn't mean it filters any better, only that it captures a larger quantitiy of dirt before it gets clogged. (The small stuff still gets thru just like on the small filter.) So if you're going 10k miles between changes, the larger filter will have less restriction (flow more oil) for a longer period of time, & should go into bypass (flowing unfiltered oil) less frequently than a smaller filter.
