Jeff & Royce's DIY is pretty good.

I'd add a couple of things to what they say based on my experience a couple of months ago ('89 SPG):

- Have a piece of wood handy to protect the radiator when you pry the primary shaft out.

- If you're lucky, it has 10-mm hex bolts holding the slave cylinder to the primary chain housing. If you're not lucky, they're allen screws. Be prepared for a long haul getting the lousy things out.

- If the slave cylinder doesn't pump up all the way and you have to force a tool in under the pressure plate fingers, use either the special SAAB pressure plate tool or some heavy steel wire. Copper wire is very ductile and tends to shed slivers. Very sharp slivers. I picked a lot of them out of my fingers. Blood, brake fluid, clutch disc dust, and grease are not a happy combination.

- Have something handy to catch the hydraulic fluid from the hose after you remove the slave cylinder to replace it.

- Make a pressure bleeder of some sort to bleed the hydraulics. Be prepared to have the master cylinder become a little sloppy from fresh hydraulic fluid. And be prepared to rebuild or replace it in a few months if the hydraulics haven't been floshed in a long time.

There were 2 parts of the project that were difficult for me:

- Getting the lousy plastic shield off (with all of the Turbo-specific bits in the way)

- Removing the slave cylinder - My car had the old-style slave cylinder and I wasn't able to pump it up enough to fully fit the tool in the pressure plate. I ended up cutting it in half. Have a sawzall handy because a hacksaw doesn't cut it (as it were) unless you have triceps like Der Terminator (It took me almost an hour and I was sore for a good few days). If you have to cut it in half, be very careful to clean all of the shavings out of the area - especially anything that might get into the primary chain area.

Other than that, it's a piece of cake. And it feels so good when you're done.
