Clutch Pedal (with pics)... Alex, gorper, anyone?

So i decided to inspect my clutch pedal today and went a little further than i expected... so much so that the clutch is now in my living room:) I indeed have the oblong hole indicated, and i'm hoping this is the source of my notchy shifting (rather than clutch or tranny issues!)
Few questions:
-if i drill out the clutch hole to the next size (3/8" i believe) do i need to also drill out the holes of the 'fork' that are in the car attached to the slave or master (i forget which one sits directly behind the pedals). If no drilling is required inside the car, how does the new pin slide thru the holes of the fork (because i assume it was fit to hold the OEM hole, not the new, larger, 3/8")
-the slave or master (again, the one that sits behind the dash) was pretty greasy, and the boot even slipped off at one point (i just slid it back on, was that ok?). Is this indicative of seals going, or is it supposed to be messy like that?
-the nut holding the clutch has a plastic piece inside it... is this a self-locking nut and do i need to replace it or can this one be re-used?
-the clutch spring came off fully, does it just attach to a metal ridge under the edge of the knee pad? (the metal piece i felt seemed to have a ridge at the end of it to prevent the spring from just sliding off)
What else do i need to know?
THANK YOU!!!!!
