My Saab '89 900 n/t keeps dying on the freeway going 50-60mph. Running perfect and then all dash lights come on and car just turns off, no sputter or anything. I try and restart, it will keep cranking but won't start back up. After sitting for awhile, it will restart only to die again.

This happened 5 other times in past 3 weeks(first 3 times it started back up, last 2 times it was towed).

Last week I changed the sparkPlugs, cap and rotor but it still wouldn't keep running had it towed to Saab mechanic. However, by the time they were able to take a look at it a couple days later, the car started right up and they couldn't get it to die. They changed the spark plug #3 injector saying it wasn't getting much spray and that was why car was running rough ($200+), but they couldn't get the car to die like I said. I picked it up and drove to work and back(20 miles each way) in hot (80 degree) weather without a problem. At night I went out to a friends, and drove back around 2am in cooler (45 degree)weather and it shut off again, I couldn't get it to restart and towed it the next morning.

Mechanic mentioned that I had a slight oil leak in the O-ring that could be getting the ignition sensor right behind the leak wet. Mechanic said when it dries up, then it will work, only to get wet again. He said it would be $300 to replace the sensor. Also, I figure I would probably need to get the O-ring leak fixed too or the new ignition sensor would also get wet which would be another $200. But the mechanic is just guessing without even looking at the sensor and I'd hate to spend $500 for a wrong guess and keep having to replace parts.

Anyone heard of these symptoms before? Engine cuts off on freeway going 50-60mph, won't restart or restarts and dies after 60 seconds. After sitting for days, it restarts and runs for a few trips but eventually engine cuts off on freeway again. Does the mechanic sound reasonable? He did change the spark plug injector which was not related to the symptom and I don't want him to continuing changing out parts. thanks for any advice.
