Wiper Assy R&R, My method.... Posted by EverettDave [Email] (#1894) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EverettDave) on Sat, 30 Apr 2005 18:40:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
To the gentlemen discussing C900 wiper assy removal and replacement, I agree with all comments, but here's my method:
I have an '89 SPG with a/c, of course, and I was able to just barely get the entire wiper mechanism out of the car without tampering with the a/c comp. Do NOT remove the motor first, leave it on the assembly, remove wiper arms obviously, and the 4 bolts, then I found that I could maneuver assy out with the pass side wiper stud being the tightest contact. I used some muscle here and a few choice words. Out it popped!
To replace the whole mechanism, I could not force that pass side stud back under the cowl, so my solution was to use a long prybar to bend the cowl gutter upward about 1/2" (remove the gutter seal first), and the point of prying is right at center of the cowl's square stud opening. I hated doing this, but it was only answer I could see. So, once everything is safely back in place, I bent the cowl gutter back to its original contour with a rubber mallet. If you are careful, you will not bend the cowl itself, only the gutter fwd edge. Took a little work to get the gutter back in original shape, then I touched it up with body paint, then replaced the cowl gutter rubber seal. Now, one can barely see where I touched up the paint right in the bottom of the cowl water gutter.
It is my conclusion that all C900 wiper mechanisms will eventually have to come out for work in due time, so everyone will encounter this experience and perhaps come up with other methods. Let's hear 'em!
