Overheating Posted by Joe [Email] (#444) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Joe) on Thu, 7 Jul 2005 07:29:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 1992 Saab 900S convertible with 56,000 miles. I have owned the car for 10 years. I recently moved to Phoenix and the 110+ heat has caused my Saab to run just below the "H" on the temperature gauge. I have always read that a Saab will run hot but since the move and desert heat, the temperature gauge pushes the "H" after driving about 25 miles. It hasn't overheated yet but I'm very concerned. I have checked both fans - both are functioning, with the second fan kicking in when the AC is on. The AC works okay but when the temperature pushes the "H" on the gauge, the AC kicks out. I had the radiator throughly flushed and that helped - it didn't run as hot and the surprise was that the AC seemed to cool better after the flush. I have read the guidance on wiring the cooling fans so that both kick on at the same time instead of one with the second one kicking in when the AC is on. I have tried driving with and without the AC on with no change in the temperature gauge. The 'overheating' seems to become a factor after about 25 miles of driving, with the temperature holding its own (normal since i've had the car)until then. PLEASE post any advice (other than moving north). Thanks.
