It's a 1991, so it is supposed to be a 2.1l. I really don't know anything about VIN decoding (strangely) but the bottom line is that the 2.0l NA motor was dropped in 1990. The blue-topped injectors (and I'd venture black AMM & 3-pin AIC) mean it has 2.4.2 unless someone went to a LOT of work to swap the engine wiring harness & computer. If the head has the directly-tapped ground lugs and the intake manifold has the larger runners, I'd rest assured it's a 2.1l. I can't imagine any scenario where a mechanic would have swapped the bottom end and not the top - if the original engine had failed (deck erosion, bottom end, whatever) few if any mechanics would have had the knowledge or inclination to keep the better, later top-end and bolt it on to an earlier 2.0l... possible, of course, just highly unlikely.
I wouldn't worry about the exhaust. Welding is a simple task, and more likely than not with the mileage you've indicated it's been through at least one cat and set of mufflers in its life. Unless it was strictly dealer-serviced (and even if it was) few if any folks out there would go to the trouble of ordering the "right" exhaust parts when it's just as easy to fab something up with run of the mill exhaust pieces.
