I bought a 92 convertible almost 3 years ago. Aside from the regular things like oil changes and tires, which any car would need, here is what I have done.

The top was in good shape, but needed some re-gluing to the glass, and now needs some more. I would say the glue and related things for that has been about $25 since I bought it. Also had to have one of the top-raising parts kind of manufactured by having a shop weld together some parts. About $50 total.

I had my alternator rebuilt. Took me a long time to take it out and reinstall it, but the cost, including a few tools, was about $100

Various hoses to remove the heater valve, and some vaccuum hoses: about $30.

Replaced the fuel pump. Just the guts, not the whole thing. I did the labor myself. Pump unit and related items: about $120

I will have a new muffler installed by the Saab dealer this week. Total cost with header pipe, gaskets, both mufflers and labor will be about $500.

So far then: $825. Not bad, for any car, but especially a bargain for the amount of fun this car is, and the amount of attention it gets.

I still have some cosmetic things to do: dashboard is cracked, seats need recovering, and the hood needs repainting. Those things don't have an effect on the performance, but I do plan on doing them. It will probably be worth it if I am frugal about how I go about it.

Overall, I cn say that most things have been less than what I had thought, based on Saab's reputation. The muffler is definitely more than average, but that's not just the dealer price; Midas gave a higher quote.

As I see it, my purchase price ($3400) plus the repairs comes to $4225. I have owned the car for 31 months; about $135 a month including the puchase price. If it blows itself up tomorrow, I have gotten my money's worth.
