It's actually not the car that the BPV prevents stalling, it's the compressor wheel. A bad BPV will cause stalling due to the vacuum leak it creates when the diaphragm ruptures.
Remember that the only thing that matters for preventing stalling is the stuff between the throttlebody and the intake valves, and that's all just plain ol' vacuum leaks. That system needs to be 100% closed, or you'll end up with all sorts of stalling issues. Check each vacuum line, all the annoying little rubber bushings, the EGR blockoff plate if you have one, the AIC, the TPS, and the PCV system. You all need to be sure the AMM is in good shape and you're getting adequate fuel at low RPM, and that the deceleration dashpot (on LH 2.2 cars) is working properly. Unlike the later cars, LH 2.2 relies on a slow RPM slow down to get the AIC cycling properly. Have you tried going through the base idle reset procedure?
