Changing front shocks, ABS, need ideas.....

I’m trying to change the front shocks on my 1990 SPG. I read several pages of old threads, gathering hints, but I’m stuck now. Original shocks had 2 thin nuts at the top. The replacement Sachs/Boge use a single Nylok (nylon inserted nut) at the top. I’ve removed the old shock (cut shaft some, then broke shaft and removed upper shaft & nuts). Inserted new shock/bushings/washer/nylok nut. Cannot tighten the nut down to squash the bushings to washer-size. Turning the shock results in no shaft rotation, due to nylok nut. Bought a set of Gear Wrenches. But car has ABS, and I cannot get 1-click of the ratchet from the top or from reaching under the ABS system. Top has brake lines in the way, no room. Bottom has other stuff in the way, no room! Please – Solutions or suggestions? Re-use the 2 thin nuts instead of the single Nylok nut? Remove alternator and or A/C to gain access under the ABS unit? I know it’s not the first time shocks have been changed on ABS-equipped car, but what do people do? The rear shocks were easy!
