CMyles,
Thanks for the very useful information for evaluating my synchros. As this is my first time inside of one of these transmissions I am not sure what is extremely worn or not. Your experience is helping me a lot. I will have to inspect the synchros with your pointers in mind. I was having a little difficulty getting into 2nd gear at times. I have already purchased a replacement 1st / 2nd shift fork because it was worn. I am not sure if my slight 2nd gear shifting problem was due to the worn shift fork or the synchro. All of the other gears shifted fine. I pulled the tranny to take care of the pinion bearing whine which I caught pretty early. I am replacing most of the bearings and the lay shaft. I also have a good used reverse gear from Ebay, mine had a chip or two. On the reverse gear the machining where the stack height shims lay is a little different from my old one however I think that is just due to a different production run and the critical specs should all be the same. I know the stack height measurement is very critical in this transmission. Again - thanks for all of your very helpful comments.
