1. Regarding emergency braking - Saab incorporates two-stage emergency braking system. 1st stage is the 2nd hydraulic brake line and only on the 2nd stage hand-brake comes out.
2. Hand-brake is supposed to be mostly used as parking brake system. Thus FWD car with parking brakes on the rear axle is twice surely parked as one with parking brakes on the front axle in the case if both braking systems are applied (transmission brake system/gear engage + hand-brake system)
3. Rear h/b can add extra maneuverability when curving (but it's mostly for 'performance' guys only).

Pre-M87 front calipers have to be rebuilt much more often then late-styled ones.
