I did happen to put a volt meter on the sensor wires, and did verify the voltage was swinging consistently between 0.1 and 0.9 volts, so I ruled replacement out.
While I was sitting in line idling, I also heard the fan kick in around the mid range temp on the gauge, so I figured that was working fine as well.
The most difficult part is really not knowing what effects the changes you make have on the gases expelled. Nobody has the comparable equipment sitting in their home garage.
